Core Network Optimization
CORE NETWORK SERVICES
CN Services involve carrying out a performance improvement and redesign study to improve overall network quality, signaling, CS traffic, PS traffic and revenues.
The following section describes CN Service contents, schedules and deliverables.
Service Description
- Evaluate and improve the performance of the mobile network, focusing on subscriber perceived quality
- Give valuable information about current network state and possible future improvements
- Improve operators' competitiveness by increasing revenue and improving subscriber satisfaction
CN SERVICES Basic Modules
Overall Network Platform Check
PIWorks will check the existing inventory and configuration of core network. This is not a total site audit, but a collection of information to help in performance evaluation. Some sites may require physical visits, subject to the time frame of the review project.
The following data will be collected:
-HLR/AUC
-MSC/VLR, MSS, MGW
-RAN BSC and RNC
-STP configurations
Fault Clearance
Fault clearance is vital to ensure fault free operation for the core network. If a node is temporarily non-operational or experiences inconsistencies or HW faults, the performance of the network and subscribers will be affected.
PIWorks will conduct the following analysis:
-Alarm analysis
-DIP, ATM, IP and Signaling performance
-Dropped call analysis
-Consistency checks
Traffic Analysis
The purpose of this module is to investigate traffic and capacity related issues in a GSM and UMTS core network and resolve them, thereby increasing traffic. The traffic and capacity investigation includes both signaling, CS and PS traffic and capacity related issues such as traffic dimensioning, utilization, congestion, and availability.
Quality Analysis
The quality of the network depends on the retainability and integrity of calls. The purpose of this module is to investigate issues that occur during call setup when resources have been assigned. The following items will be analyzed:
-Dropped Calls
· HW Problems
· Lack of Resources ECD, ISUP, etc.
· Traffic (Signaling, CS and PS) Congestion
General Parameter Analysis
Parameters define the unique condition of each CN node in the PLMN. Properly optimized parameter, feature and exchange property configurations can significantly improve network performance and increase revenue without any investments.
The following features will be analyzed:
- Node specific exchange parameter data evaluation
- Node specific exchange property data evaluation
- Node specific feature data evaluation
Network Features
PIWorks can analyze available network features to look for better settings to improve performance.

- MGW
- Location update information in VLR
- Intra-Inter MSC Handover
- Load Sharing (Signaling, CS and PS)
